When hiring new employees each company faces such issues as the candidate’s insufficient knowledge in the area, inability to work as a team member, loss of qualification, caused by temporary break of record, or complete lack of qualification. The problem lies in high requirements to the candidate, rather than low qualification of the latter. In order to overcome the situation, SoftServe establishes a training center, which is to become the first institution of such kind in Lviv. Thus, starting from the middle of February, 20 students, mostly university graduates, will attend classes in SoftServe training center.
For three months students will be extending their knowledge in using C++ in object-oriented programming, as well as getting acquainted with other technologies, widely used at SoftServe. Quality assurance and documentation writing are also included in the curriculum. The Training Center imitates the model of the “larger” SoftServe, and the training itself will model the full cycle of the software product development: setting targets, defining scope, writing specifications, splitting tasks among teams and team members, building components, testing the results on every development phase, fixing issues, etc.
Every day, the students of the training center will have an hour and a half class, where they will have an opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice. This will help them to increase quickly their technical expertise. After the lesson the students will get consultation as to how they can apply the involved technologies in real-life projects. The students will be split in four training development teams, each of them performing their own task. Each team will perform tasks, assigned to them within the range of their own training project. The task will illustrate both concepts, common to all programming languages (designing and developing GUI, working with RDBMS, web development, multithreading, etc.) as well as some language- and architecture-related technologies. On top of that, some specific tasks will be provided by project managers of our company.
The Training Center is headed by Andriy Peremybida, PhD in Mathematics, associate professor of Ivan Franko National University of L’viv. According to Andriy Peremybida, upon graduating from the Training Center, each student will be both psychologically and technically ready to join SoftServe and possess considerable professional skills in working with tools and best practices, employed at SoftServe. In order to join the Training Center, an applicant has to pass a qualification interview. Currently, the number of applicants is three times as much as the number of available positions.
