April was full of different events at SoftServe University. Here in this article we will try to give you a short overview of the most interesting events that happened during this period.

On April, 17 and 18 SoftServe University celebrated the 14th official graduation of the students, taking IT Academy course “Development, Design and Architecture of Software Systems Based on Java”, during which the graduates from the group 014, which counted 22 people, presented their projects. For the last three months the students had been studying object-oriented approach to software development, modern methods of building Java applications, development tools, etc.

At about the same time the University was open for everyone, who wanted to learn about new professional and career growth opportunities, offered by Microsoft IT Academy Program. Volodymyr Anokhin hosted a presentation for about 30 students and young specialists, while Andriy Peremyibida answered questions after the presentations.

Microsoft IT Academy program offers its students a set of courses, elaborated by Microsoft Corporation with the aim of teaching latest Microsoft products and tools to IT students in three directions: Office Suite, Administration and Programming. When developing this course, Microsoft concentrated primarily on software engineering, oriented at modern development tools using Visual Basic, C#, ,NET. Since education courses are implemented in different complexity levels, they can be taken by both university students and experienced software developers, who want to get experience in MS-based technologies.

On April, 18 Microsoft Ukraine representatives V. Shantokhin and S. Baidachny presented software tools by Microsoft and discussed the details of further cooperation between Microsoft Ukraine and SoftServe University.

On April, 19 Konstantyn Kosynsky, a certified teacher of Microsoft Ukraine hosted a training on Windows Server platform “Longhorn” for the representatives of different branches of SoftServe: developers, system architects, project managers. The training was aimed at informing IT specialists on new functionalities of the product, defining necessary steps that need to be taken when using this product for development of new projects or migration of the existing projects.

The training program included:

  • Overview of new features of Microsoft Windows Server “Longhorn”
  • Roles, services and additional functionality
  • Windows Server Longhorn as an application server (WCF, WWF, CardSpace)
  • Overview of new features of Internet Information Services 7
  • Server and services administration (Windows PowerShell, Windows Eventing
  • Virtualization technologies
  • Microsoft server platform development plans

On April, 26 SoftServe University held SoftServe IT Academy open house, which was attended by over 50 best students from Computer Sciences and Applied Mathematics faculties of National University “Lvivs’ka Politekhnika” and Lviv Ivan Franko National University. Taras Kytsmey opened the meeting with an introductory speech. After his speech, Vasyl Mylko, head of JetLab department, held a presentation “Modern software development: an insight into the future”, where he informed the attendees about modern platforms and software engineering methods, and told them about typical C++, Java, J2EE, .NET projects and achievements of SoftServe.

The attendees listened to Halyna Mykhalska (MS Solutions), a graduate of IT Academy, talking about her impressions and work achievements. Andriy Pereymybida explained the details of the program course in detail. The course provides its students with both theoretical and practical background, necessary for successful work in real project environment. This includes team work skills, keeping to standards, quality assurance, etc. The program is suitable for young specialists and 4th or 5th year students. The aim of the program is to provide students with knowledge and experience, necessary for getting employed at SoftServe - a modern IT company.

At the end of the meeting, the attendees could listen to a presentation about the peculiarities and benefits of working at SoftServe, hosted by Antonina Kurets, HR manager, and could get a guided tour of the company. In addition, on April 15, SoftServe took part in organizing West Ukrainian Olympiad in applied mathematics, where Andriy Pereymybida was among the jury members.
